Company Visit – Swire Archive Centre & OnTheList

Our MBA students had the opportunity to experience an exclusive one-day company visit. While these companies operate in different industries, they share a common thread – a commitment to doing business in a socially responsible manner.

The first stop was the Swire Archive Centre, located in Taikoo Place, the site of the former Taikoo Sugar Refinery where the Swire Group began its industrial operations in Hong Kong since 1884. The environmentally-controlled repository built in the Centre recorded Swire companies’ past development in Hong Kong and Asia, providing a valuable historical resource for staff, academics, and the wider community.

During the guided tour and executive sharing by the Head of Swire Archives, Ms. Bonnie Sze, our students were impressed by the evolution of Swire’s iconic brands. This included seeing the progression of Cathay Pacific’s cabin designs, as well as digitised photo albums and film footage documenting the company’s history.

Through the historical journey of Swire, our students learnt not just about the importance of archive management but more about its functions and, in particular, its facilitation of the Group’s stakeholder engagement and various CSR programmes. The archives showcased Swire’s effort to innovate while preserving its core values – a key element that will be essential for our future business leaders.

The students then visited OnTheList, Asia’s pioneering members-only flash sales platform. The company works directly with retail brands and distributors to give new life to old inventory, providing a sustainable way for brands to sell past-season items while offering discounts to members.

The OnTheList team, including the Managing Director Mr. Giovanni Musillo, the Head of Business Development & Partnerships Ms. Mathilde Bétinas, the Head of E-commerce Ms. Axelle Maillard Lai, the Operations Manager Ms. Lorraine Cheung, the Assistant Marketing Manager Ms. Coco Chan, and the Assistant Finance Manager Mr. Florian Duarte shared insights into their innovative marketing strategies and the challenges of navigating the digital luxury retail landscape.

Through these visits, our MBA students gained firsthand exposure to how businesses across industries are balancing commercial priorities with social responsibility. They observed companies leveraging innovation, technology, and a strong ethical foundation to drive positive change. This equipped them with the knowledge and mindset to become the next generation of responsible business leaders.
