Company Visit – ICBC (Asia) and Hong Kong International Airport

Hong Kong, renowned as a global financial and aviation hub, often captures attention with its bustling banks and international airport. But what goes on behind the scenes from a business perspective?

Our students visited ICBC (Asia), where they delved into the bank’s market presence and transaction banking services, including IPO and corporate financing. The session also shed light on ICBC’s strategies to safeguard against financial crimes and ensure compliance, as well as an in-depth exploration of the bank’s retail banking offerings. Adding to the depth of the discussion, our EMBA alumnus Tony Mak and current part-time student Jonathan Jiang offered unique perspectives as ICBC insiders, providing unparalleled firsthand experience. The day continued as our students visited the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA).

K.F. Chan, an HKU MBA alumnus and the General Manager of Land, Property & Aviation Franchises at the Airport Authority Hong Kong, gave a presentation on HKIA’s “Airport City” development plans. Mr. Chan shared details on the airport’s land acquisition, planning, and development initiatives – particularly the SKYCITY project – aimed at transforming HKIA into an aviation hub as well as a world class destination.

The HKIA Innovation Lab showcased some of the airport’s latest technological initiatives. This included a demonstration of the self-service departure gateway that utilises biometric recognition technology to streamline passenger processing, , as well as the Immersive Cave that visualises design review of new construction at the Airport. The visit to the Hong Kong International Aviation Academy further enriched our understanding of the training programmes shaping the future of aviation professionals.

Our heartfelt thanks to the speakers and host organisations for this experience!
