Can you briefly share with us your background?

I completed my undergraduate studies in Economics at UCSD in 2018. Since then, I have gained significant experience in the financial industry, working with esteemed organisations such as CCBA and HSBC. In pursuit of further professional growth, I made the decision to enrol in a full-time MBA programme at HKU. Currently, I am employed as a consultant at a family office, where I apply my expertise to contribute to the organisation’s success.

What were your aims when you started your MBA?

When commencing my MBA journey, I had several goals in mind. Firstly, I aimed to capitalise on my prior experiences and skills to transition to a platform that would enable me to excel. Secondly, I sought to enhance my interpersonal and communication skills, as I find great value in building relationships. Lastly, I aimed to remain closely aligned with market trends and identify opportunities for career growth. Overall, my aims encompassed personal and professional development, adaptability to market dynamics, and the optimisation of my strengths.

How did the HKU MBA Programme help you achieve your goals?

The HKU MBA programme played a pivotal role in helping me achieve my goals. It provided a global learning environment that exposed me to diverse insights from individuals across the world, enabling me to gain a comprehensive understanding of various market dynamics. The Career Development team offered invaluable support and resources, facilitating my professional growth. Additionally, the programme equipped me with industry-specific knowledge, empowering me to make well-informed decisions about my future direction. In essence, the HKU MBA programme served as a catalyst for my personal and professional development.

What was your most memorable HKU MBA experience?

Throughout my full-time MBA journey, I hold every event and gathering as a cherished memory. Whether it was participating in sports day, engaging in group discussions, or attending social events, each experience has left an indelible impression. However, I am eagerly looking forward to the possibility of even more remarkable moments yet to come. Graduation may mark the completion of a course, but the bonds we share will remain eternal.

Do you have any advice for those who would like to use an MBA as a door for a career change?

My advice for individuals aspiring to utilise an MBA as a gateway for a career transition is to actively engage in every event and gathering during their MBA journey. Embrace new experiences and seize the opportunity to connect with individuals who can profoundly impact their lives and transform their mindsets. Stepping out of one’s comfort zone and embracing new challenges is crucial for personal growth. 

For instance, my decision to attend Fudan University had a transformative effect on my personal growth and overall experience. During that time, we were transitioning from the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the exchange student experience played a significant role in shaping not only my new career direction but also my lifestyle choices. It taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of embracing change in both professional and personal spheres.

Since you were on the Fudan Track, could you describe your experience?

Choosing the Fudan Track not only provided me with exposure to diverse industries but also allowed me to actively participate in various school events. From attending local career events to experiencing the remarkable local graduation ceremony, each event was a truly extraordinary and enriching experience. These opportunities not only deepened my understanding of the local professional landscape but also fostered connections with industry professionals and fellow students, making my time at Fudan University truly memorable and rewarding.
