After completing my bachelor degree at the University of Illinois, Chicago, I opted to return to Hong Kong to pursue my career. I believe Hong Kong to be a very dynamic city offering lots of opportunities.
In 2004 I joined the Asia buying office for Boots, which has since gone on to become Walgreens Boots Alliance, the world’s largest pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer. Starting as an assistant product development executive and working my way up to Buying Manager, I felt that now was the right time to develop new skills to help take me to the next level.
Having researched the available MBA courses in the market, I found that Hong Kong University offered exactly what I was looking for. Their focus on admitting students from different industries in order to gain broader views matched with my belief that this is the best way to stimulate new ideas.
To date, I am really enjoying my MBA class and have found that one of the most valuable experiences is the opportunity to collaborate with classmates and deliver group projects in every module. Teaming up with classmates from different countries, industries and backgrounds helps not only professionally but is also great for personal development. The MBA office also organises regular networking events and forums to offer opportunities for students to develop their professional network – meeting not only MBA students but also alumni and other business professionals.
I am looking forward to the UK field trip in July 2016, which has been organised by the HKU MBA office. I believe this is a valuable experience that I could not get elsewhere!
