“Those who achieve success are those who take a dream and make it come true”
Starting my own business has been my dream since college. After getting my undergraduate degree in accounting, I started my career with PwC. In 6 years, I worked in both the New York and Hong Kong offices. I joined as an internal auditor and later transferred to be a campus recruiter. The work exposure and training I experienced in PwC was amazing. However, deep in my heart, I knew something was missing – an opportunity to chase after my dream of starting my own business. After I found out that HKU MBA offers “Entrepreneurship Innovation & Operation Management” as one of its essential themes, I decided to apply for the MBA.
After 6 months of the MBA journey, I am closer to my dream than ever before. I am now the co-founder of Natives, a language services startup based in Hong Kong. The business idea came from a project that I did in one of the elective classes (“Business Lab: Ideas Incubation Programme”), and the two other co-founders are my classmates from the very same class. Outside the classroom, the HKU community and connections have been a huge help in building my startup. The “CEO Talk” event hosted by the HKU MBA office introduced us to one of our advisers, Ringo Lam, who is a serial entrepreneur and provided us with crucial advice on the business plan. In addition, our team applied for and was selected to be one of the pitching startups for the HKU DreamCatchers 100K competition. The competition provided us with a platform for meeting with other startups and prepared us well for our future pitches to potential investors.
Joining HKU MBA was a life changing opportunity for me. I look forward to the remainder of this exciting journey.
