After obtaining a degree in biology from Binghamton University in New York, I began a career in fixed income research, working for Fitch Ratings and JPMorgan. In my last role as a transaction manager of structured finance at Fitch, I was responsible for the timely reporting of ratings for fixed income securities. The rating process could be quite intensive, starting with in-depth analysis of the underlying portfolio, followed by complex cash flow forecasting. Each analysis is subject to comprehensive peer and senior review and, only then, is a rating report with detailed rationale published on the company website and news wires such as Bloomberg. Numerous institutional investors rely on these rating reports for their investment decisions.

After working in New York for 10 years, I was ready for a change. I resigned from my position in 2010 and travelled widely in five countries. As I plan to make Hong Kong my new home, joining the HKU MBA was a logical step. I was attracted by the global exposure of the programme, which began in Beijing, followed by eight months in Hong Kong. Next year, I will have the opportunity to join other MBA students at London Business School. As the business world becomes more global, there is no better way to learn than to immerse oneself in different parts of the world.
