Journey of Discovery: Part-time MBA International Field Trip

The exciting global explorations continue! 30 Part-time MBA students returned from the field trip to Finland and Estonia. An eye-opening journey that showcased the power of digital transformation and innovative thinking in business and the public sector. Check out the highlights below:

Understand the Business Environment and Innovations Across Industries

  • Finland’s Business Landscape: Students visited the Espoo Development Council and Finland-Hong Kong Business Association, gaining insights into Finnish business ecosystem, international trade connections, and strategic efforts to cultivate innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Nokia Headquarters: Students had the opportunity to learn about the revitalised brand and its strategic vision.
  • Vaisala: During the visit to Vaisala, students learned about Xweather, the weather intelligence solution that provides actionable weather insights for industries affected by weather —aviation, renewable energy, utilities, mining, and maritime, and how AI and machine learning can contribute to data-driven business operation optimisation.
  • Volkswagen’s Software Powerhouse: CARIAD, the subsidiary of Volkswagen, that develops automotive software to enable digital mobility for the future.
  • Unicorn Spotlight – Wise: the fin-tech product that facilitates it users to manage multi-currency money. The company saved their users a staggering £435 million in just Q1 2024.

Digital Transformation in Public Services

  • Visit to one of the most advanced digital societies, Estonia: A true pioneer in technology-enabled e-government and digital public services. From personal identity, medical system to transportation; proactive child care to the most recent launch of marriage registration.
  • Borderless Business Opportunities: Students learned about Estonia’s e-Residency programme, which provides global citizens with transnational digital identities and access to the European Union business environment.

A walk-through Cities and Cultures

  • Explore one of three chosen cities in European Capital of Culture 2024: Students travelled to Tartu, the second largest city in Estonia. Exhibitions showcased the country’s rich academic, cultural, and historic legacy.
  • Port of Tallinn: Understood Estonia’s maritime history, modern facilities, and scenic coastal views.
