As the Regional Data & Analytics Director for Loreal, I lead the Data & Analytics team in APAC Luxury Division to report and examine market, sales, digital and customer data through dashboards and analysis. This is a relatively new role, in which I built and formed the team for the retail industry to utilise data as a way of boosting business.
Compared with other business schools in Hong Kong with students mainly from the finance sector, HKU MBA stood out to me with its highly diverse student profile. Since I wanted to connect with people from other industries to widen my business horizons, I chose HKU without any hesitations.
HKU MBA was the best experience of my life. Aside from acquiring business knowledge from professors who are leading experts in their fields, the thing I value the most was the chance to expand my network and gain a group of lifelong friends. For me, the networking events were really helpful and gave me an opportunity to build new relationships in an enjoyable way – I joined a lot of the events and still often meet up with my MBA friends now.
I would say that I learn from my MBA friends both personally and professionally. Apart from discussing business issues and learning about new strategies and theories together, they always inspire me to think from multiple perspectives for more comprehensive decision-making.
Balancing a full-time job with part-time studies can be quite challenging and the most important thing is to communicate with your boss about your needs. The support I received from my boss really helped me to better manage my time and I was still able to excel in both my career and studies, and enjoy MBA life at the same time.
A piece of advice I want to pass on to aspiring students is that networking is just as important as gaining knowledge, if not more so. Grab the chance to talk to others and broaden your network, as this will be your true support in the future.
