About Me: An engineer with curiosity and creativity to always learn more

My Biggest Career Accomplishment

In 2021, Guangzhou introduced a centralised land supply policy – the first of its kind in China. This resulted in the simultaneous launch of numerous plots for bidding, requiring us to complete calculations for multiple projects within two weeks and select which plots to bid on.

Foreseeing a tremendous increase in workload – possibly ten times greater than usual – I quickly formed a strong project calculation team, enlisting colleagues from other cities for support. I also created a multi-departmental group to facilitate efficient information exchange and problem-solving. In addition, I developed the region’s first automatic calculation template, which streamlined the calculation process and reduced errors. Through the dedicated efforts of my team and me, we ultimately completed the challenging task on schedule, securing the only project from the public market that year.

Aspirations to Pursuing an MBA

After participating in a project sandbox simulation training at my company, I developed a strong interest in case analysis research. During this process, I also identified the need to upskill in financial accounting, strategy, data analysis, and information technology to meet the growing job requirements. This has prompted my consideration for pursuing an MBA.

Although I have obtained a management degree, my work has mainly involved in dealing with engineering with a focus on the domestic real estate market. I want to gain exposures to more diverse range of work, understand the laws of the world and gain global perspectives. I believe that a shift in thinking and a sound management system are essential for advancing my career, and an MBA can bring these changes to me.

Why HKU MBA

When considering an MBA, a few key factors are important to me. First is location. Having lived and worked in the Greater Bay Area, I prefer studying within the region to take care of my family. Hong Kong, as a major financial centre in Asia, offers a profound historical background and strong economic vitality, providing ample learning opportunities. I plan to work and live in Hong Kong in the future.

I strongly resonate with HKU’s motto, Sapientia Et Virtus, which explains the truths of work and life – learning to be a moral person before acquiring practical skills. The HKU MBA provides an ideal platform for me to enhance skills and experiences. With its renowned faculty, diverse students and cutting-edge curriculum, the programme offers a transformative educational experience.

In terms of academic learning, I am particularly excited about the course modules focused on Business Tech and Innovation, as well as Finance. HKU’s unique location also provides unparalleled opportunities to understand the Asian financial and real estate markets, which are increasingly central to the global economy. I believe this programme can equip me with the rigorous academic framework and the global business perspective needed to advance my career.

My career vision is to become an expert in real estate finance, specialising in real estate market research, strategic consulting, financial investment, and sustainable development in the Asia-Pacific region. Post MBA, I hope to work in investment banking, private equity, or asset management, focusing on real estate finance and providing investment and asset allocation services to clients.
