Pre-MBA Career Background: Fresh—LVMH, Luxury Retail, Financial Planning and Analysis Manager/Finance
About Me:
This is Jenny Wang. I’m a curious learner who is passionate about exploring new ideas, cultures and experiences to grow. My career has been mainly focusing on financial reporting and planning in the retail sector.
My Biggest Career Accomplishment:
One of my most significant career achievements was spearheading the Profit Protection Plan at Fresh-LVMH during the COVID-19 crisis. Operating as a one-person team, I successfully collaborated with over 30 department heads to achieve a 16% reduction in overhead costs, amounting to $8 million USD.
Another achievement I valued was during my tenure at Fannie Mae, one of the largest companies in the U.S. by assets, I gained extensive experience in managing and analysing vast volumes of data. We dealt with trillions of dollars on the liability side, and initially, it seemed impossible to conduct analysis at such a granular level. By exploring our reporting system, I challenged the old processes, ultimately leading to significantly improved report runtime and more accurate analysis for SEC 10-Q and 10-K filings.
Aspirations for Pursuing an MBA
The reason I want to pursue an MBA degree is to expand my network in Hong Kong and Asia. In 2021, I made the life-changing decision to permanently move back to Hong Kong after spending 16 years in the United States since my adolescent years. However, settling into a new place and starting from scratch was daunting. Therefore, I thought of joining an MBA programme that can help me connect with like-minded professionals who share the same goals as me and are competitive, driven and eager to make an impact. I believe the diverse student profile at HKU Business School will provide me with an extensive network of connections that will last a lifetime.
Why HKU MBA
I am seeking a reputable MBA program that is well-known in Asia and features a diverse student profile, ideally located in the buzzing city center of Hong Kong. HKU MBA checks all the boxes.
My Expectations After Completing the MBA:
I expect to become a more well-rounded professional with comprehensive knowledge of the latest business trends and local Asian markets. I want to continue in FP&A but open to industries other than the retail sector. I also look forward to building lifelong connections with fellow classmates and the school community.
Advice for prospective candidates
Set a clear goal for what you want to achieve in the programme. And remember, the process is just as important as the outcome. Make sure you are ready to engage actively not just in class but also outside of class to maximize your MBA experience.
