Hometown: South Korea
Education Background: City University of Hong Kong, New Media
Pre-MBA Career Background: Media / Producer, Business Development
About Me: A warrior, fiercely battling between aspiration and reality.
My Biggest Career Accomplishment:
I successfully licensed Korean content to global platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Viu, bringing joy to audiences worldwide. Additionally, producing and broadcasting original media content provided me with the most valuable and exciting experience of my career.
Aspiration for Pursuing an MBA:
As the media industry expands and diversifies, I realised the importance of professional management knowledge and experience. With global media companies increasingly integrating technology, I felt the need to strengthen my expertise in both management and emerging technologies to stay ahead of industry trends.
Why HKU MBA:
I valued the strength of the alumni network and the legacy of the institution. I believe that being part of a school with accomplished alumni would provide lifelong insights and pride. Equally important was the school’s ability to recognise societal shifts and its commitment to innovation and investment in change.
I initially considered top U.S. schools, particularly those in the Ivy League. However, instead of 2-year MBA, HKU’s 1-year programme felt highly attractive. Moreover, the global exposure through its partnerships with world-class schools across different tracks made the HKU MBA the most compelling choice.
My Expectations After Completing the MBA:
I expect to join a tech-media company. Traditional media is rapidly declining worldwide, while new technologies, platforms, and interactive engagement with audiences are shaping the future. I want to become a leader at the forefront of this transformation.
Advice for Prospective Candidates:
As an Asian woman in my 30s, I carried significant doubts about returning to study. Honestly, I even considered giving up on orientation day. But just one week later, those doubts disappeared. My first impression of the MBA was that we are all small boats drifting in the vast sea of our careers. Behind every impressive classmate was someone with deep concerns, just like me. This realisation pushed us to connect quickly, share openly, and build the momentum of a speedboat moving toward success together.
So my advice is: do not hesitate. As our Senior Executive Director Sachin once told me when I was a candidate, even if you don’t yet know your exact destination, the moment you join the HKU MBA, signals will start to appear. This may be your final signal—so put your most honest and thoughtful reflections into your application, and reveal them with courage during your interview.
