Hometown: India
Education Background: Mumbai University – Master of Commerce; CPA Certification
Pre-MBA Career Background: Financial Planning & Analysis Manager at NYK India Private Limited
About Me: I am a finance enthusiast, fitness buff, and bold executor. I’m a music junkie and completely obsessed with cricket.
My Biggest Career Accomplishment:
I’ve had several accomplishments throughout my career, but two key highlights stand out:
After completing my CPA, I joined Reliance Industries Limited, India’s largest conglomerate. Due to my strong performance and successful management of the inaugural annual compliance, I was selected for a four-month on-site project in London. This was my first international business trip, and I was the youngest employee in the company to receive such an opportunity for international exposure.
In my recent role as Financial Planning & Analysis Manager at NYK India Private Limited, I led a diverse team of four, including a junior executive younger than me, two assistant managers in their early forties, and a team lead in her mid-thirties. Despite the diversity in age and experience, I managed the team effectively, ensuring smooth collaboration, zero conflicts, and consistent delivery of targets.
Aspiration for Pursuing an MBA:
As a CPA from India with over six years of experience in the finance industry, I have developed a strong foundation in financial strategy, business decision-making, and corporate finance. However, to transition into a strategic role, I recognise the need to broaden my expertise beyond finance and gain a holistic understanding of strategy, operations, and leadership. To bridge this gap, I have decided to pursue an MBA.
Why HKU MBA:
When selecting an MBA programme, I focused on several critical factors. Global recognition was essential to ensure the programme’s credibility and enhance my future career prospects worldwide. I also sought a diverse cohort, as learning alongside peers from various backgrounds enriches perspectives and fosters cross-cultural collaboration. Additionally, a small class size was important to facilitate personalised attention, meaningful interactions, and a strong network. These elements align well with my professional goals and learning preferences.
I considered various MBA programmes in the US, Europe, and Asia. However, taking into account the cost, post-MBA opportunities, and programme structure, I chose the HKU Business School due to its strong focus on Asia-centric business strategies, global exposure, and dynamic curriculum. Its strong industry connections, case-based learning approach, and access to top global faculty will help me refine my strategic thinking and decision-making. Moreover, the study track in London Business School provides a unique opportunity to gain international exposure and broaden my perspective on global business trends. As Hong Kong is among the world’s top three financial centres, I can effectively leverage my previous finance experience.
My Expectations after Completing the MBA:
After completing the MBA, I plan to work in Hong Kong and expand my learning horizon. I will utilise my previous finance experience and MBA education to transition into a more strategic role.
Advice for Prospective Candidates:
Preparing for an MBA application can feel intimidating, as it requires deep self-reflection about your identity and career aspirations. However, this process is invaluable—it helps you gain clearer insight into who you are and what you truly want from your career.
My advice is to approach the application with authenticity and honesty. Being genuine not only strengthens your application but also brings clarity to your MBA goals, making the entire journey more purposeful and rewarding.
