My Biggest Career Accomplishment
At FR Capital, as one of the co-investors, I contributed to our investment deal in Spacecom Satellite Technology, a Shanghai-based commercial low-orbit broadband satellite constellation operator, which raised 6.7 billion yuan ($943 million) in its Series A funding round.
Aspirations for Pursuing an MBA
I pursue an MBA for a change in location and career. While Beijing is my home, my educational and professional journey has taken me across Singapore, the U.S., Hong Kong, the Philippines and France. Among these vibrant regions, Hong Kong’s bustling atmosphere and fast-paced lifestyle resonate with me, making it an ideal place to live and work. I have also developed a deep affection for Hong Kong, where I have been learning Cantonese for the past 5 years.
With a background in finance, my three years in venture and growth-stage investment in Mainland China have immersed me in a predominantly industry-focused environment. Colleagues typically possess strong industry expertise or engineering backgrounds, making it challenging for me to fully grasp the intricacies of high-tech industries and the technological competitiveness of the companies I worked with.
I believe it is time to take a step back, explore other career options, and broaden my horizons at this pivotal stage in my professional journey. I seek to take on more challenging opportunities that will allow me to enhance both my technical and financial skills.
Why HKU MBA
When selecting an MBA programme, I chose HKU primarily for its stimulating environment. The HKU Full-time MBA is a one-year programme that offers the unique opportunity to study both in Hong Kong and abroad. It partners with Columbia Business School and London Business School, both of which are ranked among the top schools in the U.S. and U.K. These international study tracks enable me to broaden my horizons and explore more of the world.
The programme has a relatively small class size, allowing me to build closer relationships with my classmates. This is particularly beneficial for me, as I prefer fostering deeper connections rather than simply meeting a large number of people. Maintaining connections after graduation can be challenging, so having a more intimate learning environment is truly valuable.
The flexibility to choose electives allows me to take various fascinating courses in addition to the core business curriculum. With AI and ESG being significant focuses in the current investment landscape, I am eager to deepen my understanding and expertise in these areas. This opportunity enables me to enhance my abilities beyond just the business perspective.
There are many networking events organised by the school, providing opportunities to connect not only with part-time students but also with industry professionals. This has allowed me to network with local individuals in the banking and investment industry, making this experience invaluable for expanding my connections.
