Recognised bachelor’s degree
- Satisfactory GMAT/GRE/GRK/EA score
- Minimum TOEFL score of 80 (Internet-based) or IELTS (academic module) overall band 6.0, with no subtest score less than 5.5
- At least two years of postgraduate full-time work experience
We make an overall assessment of the candidates’ degree honours/GPA, work experience, GMAT/GRE/GRK/EA score, referees’ recommendations, personal statement and interview performance.
There is no particular preference. All subjects are considered relevant, from business, pure sciences, social sciences and engineering to law, arts and languages.
The normal cut-off is two years of postgraduate full-time work experience. On average, our part-time students have seven years of work experience.
No industry is favored over another. Experience in both the private and public sectors is considered relevant.
Yes, if you can provide the proof that you have been doing so for at least 2 years.
Yes, we believe that military experience is very valuable. We strongly encourage former military personnel onto our programmes, as they have proven leadership and interpersonal and team-building skills.
All eligible part-time MBA candidates are required to take the GMAT/GRE/GRK/EA test with a satisfactory score.
However, candidates with more than 7 years of postgraduate full-time work experience might be exempted from this requirement. Exemption, if any, will be considered on a case-by-case basis after the admission interview.
- GMAT/GRE: Test scores more than five years old will not be accepted
- GRK: Test scores more than one year will not be accepted
- EA: Test scores more than five years old will not be accepted

Any applicant who wishes to be admitted on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong where the language of teaching and/ or examination is not English is required to take the TOEFL/IELTS.
Test results are valid for two years from the date you take the test till the date of completing the online application.
The HKU MBA code number for the TOEFL is 9671(Institution code) and 02(Department code).

The application fee is HK$300 (non-refundable) paid online by Visa or MasterCard credit card. Waiver of the application fee is not available.

Interviews for shortlisted candidates are by invitation only, which is sent to the email address provided in the application. An additional interview or further documentation may be required in some cases.
Admissions decisions are generally available two to four weeks after the interviews. These decisions are communicated via email.
If you fulfil all admission requirements and are sent the admission letter, after accepting the offer, paying the deposit (non-refundable) and enrolling as a student, you can apply for a deferral for 1 year.
Please note that candidates may only apply once per each academic year/intake. To re-apply, you will need to wait until admissions open for the next MBA class and then complete a whole new application.
We understand the enormous commitment of time and energy that goes into applying to business school, but unfortunately we’re not able to offer individual feedback on denied applications. The Admissions Committee reviews each candidacy with great care and thoughtful consideration. The review process is extremely thorough, and all decisions are final. There is no process for appeal.
The tuition fee for the Part-time MBA is HK$510,000, payable in six instalments over two years and subject to change and the final approval of The University of Hong Kong.
Upon receiving notice of admission, successful candidates are required to pay a deposit of HK$50,000 to confirm offer acceptance.

Strong candidacies will be granted scholarships each year on the basis of individual merit. Please go to this link for details.
Local students on the part-time MBA programme, can apply for a loan from the Extended Non-Means-Tested Loan Scheme (ENLS). Please visit the Student Financial Assistance Agency website for further information on this source of financial assistance. They can also apply to the Continuing Education Fund for reimbursement of their course fees up to a maximum of HK$25,000. Please visit the CEF website for further details.

Successful applicants will need to arrange their own student visas, which are fairly easy to obtain in Hong Kong.
Upon offer acceptance our Student Services Team will coordinate the candidates’ visa application with the relevant parties. Admissions and Academic Liaison Section (AAL) will act as the local sponsor for non-local students
