Sharing Session Featuring Mr. Brian A. Wong
On May 9, 2025, HKU MBA students and alumni had the incredible opportunity to participate in an engaging sharing session titled “Lessons Learned From Alibaba And How To Thrive In The Trade War,” featuring Mr. Brian A. Wong, a renowned entrepreneur, investor, and author of the award-winning management book ‘The Tao of Alibaba’.
As Alibaba Group’s 52nd employee and Mr. Jack Ma’s former special assistant for international affairs, Brian offered his exclusive insights and experiences on the company’s early globalisation efforts. This first American employee of the Group shared his captivating stories and unique perspectives from Alibaba’s formative years, offering a rare glimpse into its rapid global growth and the visionary leadership that fueled its success.
A key focus of the session was Brian’s expertise on globalisation amid today’s trade tensions. He offered valuable insights into navigating the uncertainty of international business, drawing from his deep experience in cross-border commerce and digital landscape.
Currently serving as the Managing Director of the Aspen China Fellows Program, Brian continues to mentor in entrepreneurial programs and invest in technology ventures through his angel fund, Seacliff Partners Limited. He is also dedicated to promoting East-West understanding as the founder of RADII, a digital media platform.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Brian for sharing his knowledge and experience with us. This session equipped our students with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities arisen from today’s global business dynamics. Special thanks also to Mr. Derrick Yip, Managing Director of CDL Investments Limited, and Mr. Roger Liang, our MBA student, for expertly moderating this inspiring session.
