After graduating with an economics degree in 2013, I joined a global wine and spirits firm, taking assignments across their sales, marketing and business development verticals. During my time there I travelled extensively across India, South East Asia & Europe undertaking multi-stakeholder projects and driving their grassroots strategy. I’ve had experiences managing teams directly and cross-functionally, which has allowed me to discover which style of leadership I am most comfortable with. Doing an MBA was the logical next step in my career progression.

For me, coming to Hong Kong was an easy decision. I had lived here for 6 months back in 2014 as part of a work project, and fell in love with the diversity and culture that came with the city. So, when I decided to do an MBA, Hong Kong was an obvious choice for me. Having lived and worked in Asia, it was also fairly clear to me that the next 50 years of global growth will be driven from Asian economies, and that I needed to be closer to the action. HKU, hence, was a perfect choice for me. As one of the most reputable universities in Asia, it provides me with an extensive network to tap into, while the partnership with London Business School gives me the added benefit of their network. The programme itself is very professionally run, with a large team catering to students, and a small cohort which ensures that everyone knows each other very well.

In my time since joining, I have been particularly impressed with the attention to detail from the MBA careers office and the extensive number of companies they have brought to campus. Their network is brilliant and the personalization they provide to each student is remarkable. I hope to use the MBA to upskill myself in areas where I don’t have professional expertise, like corporate finance and accounting, while strengthening my core competencies of marketing and strategy. I am hoping to use the skills I have gained and the connections I have developed to transition into a more senior role within the marketing/strategy function of a firm that shares my core values — trust and transparency, the championing of egalitarianism, and a culture that celebrates diversity and meritocracy.
